Silver Creek Outfitters Travel
Silver Creek Outfitters travel program slowly came to life with Terry Ring’s first hosted trips to the Good News Lodge near Bethel, Alaska in 1981. This first successful trip turned into an annual event with Terry heading out with guests to Christmas Island, Casa Blanca - Mexico, Mangrove Cay Club – Bahamas, and the Maria Behety – Argentina to name a few. By the year 2000, Terry was ready to open the flood gates of adventure fly-fishing by starting an official travel department at Silver Creek Outfitters.
The first hire for Terry was Skooter Gardiner in 1999. Skooter grew up around the Wood River Valley and had just come off a college degree and several years guiding on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River to become the first travel director Silver Creek had ever hired. Skooter knew right away what the Sun Valley angler was looking for in a travel experience and he began working with some of the finest lodges in the world. Sending guests to places like the Seychelles and Andros Island, as well as San Martin, Argentina. The travel department went under the name Silver Creek Adventures. While searching the world’s greatest fly-fishing destinations Skooter also discovered South Caicos Island. Here was and remains an unspoiled place where anglers can walk white sand flats for miles to fish to thousands of ignorant bonefish. The destination became a staple for Silver Creeks Travel Department, and the guests. With much success and a cult following of dedicated “Big South” anglers, Silver Creek Adventures grew. Knowing that it was possible to find the hidden gems of the world, Skooter was soon able to expand the travel department.
The second person hired by Skooter and Terry was John Huber in 2002. John is a dedicated outdoor writer and had just capped 13 years of full time guiding in Sun Valley with two books and several six month stints in the Florida Keys and the Everglades. The salt water experience John brought to the table added value to the trips as guests now had a source of flats fishing knowledge to draw from before their trips began. Another thing John brought to the department was a will to see as many Silver Creek employees as possible in the salt water arena. Eventually Skooter left to pursue another career, and John continued to guide the travel department with the aid of an increasingly destination suave fly department. With an importance placed on the added value of hosted trips, as well as a new inbound Idaho program John continues to head up what we now call, Silver Creek Outfitters Travel Department. It is a small department working with, on many levels, what are considered the very best lodges in the world. We work hand in hand with the lodge owners, and we are thrilled that they roll out the red carpet for our guests time and time again.
Silver Creek Outfitters travel department is dedicated to the principal it was founded on. We will only represent those destinations that represent the finest fly-fishing in the world. We will only work with lodges and outfitters that treat our guest to the highest level of service and with great respect. We are dedicated to doing whatever it takes to ensure a fun, safe and productive fly-fishing adventure.
